Review of Low Carb Diets

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Here’s a review of Low Carb Diets so you can see for yourself if its something that can help you with your weight loss efforts

Muscle Building Nutrition Books: A Review Of Low Carb Diets

Low carb diets are very popular for both weight loss and muscle gain. However, I often see people making some big mistakes when attempting to follow a low-carb diet. Here are the 3 biggest mistakes I have found:

1. What is a carb?
It is amazing to me how many people go on ‘low-carb’ nutrition plans, yet seemingly have no idea which foods are full of carbohydrates and which aren’t. One of the most common misconceptions is dairy products. I have had several people tell me how they drink milk and eat yogurt on their low-carb plans. Unfortunately, both of these foods are very high in lactose, a simple sugar. The lesson here is that you need to be educated on what you are eating if you expect to reap the full benefits of a low-carb approach to dieting.

2. Keep it healthy
The second most common mistake I have found is that people use a low-carb diet as an excuse to eat foods that are horrible for their bodies. People make the carbohydrate levels of a food the only determining factor for whether they can eat it. Bacon, pork rinds, cheese, etc. These are all low-carb foods, but it doesn’t mean they are healthy for you. Don’t use low-carbs as an excuse to eat foods that are high in saturated fats and preservatives. Remember that just about every low-carb diet calls for ample amounts of vegetables, lean protein sources, and healthy fats.

3. Exercise, exercise, exercise
Any diet works much better when combined with exercise, and low-carb diets are no exception. A combination of resistance training and aerobic work will produce the best fat loss results. And yes, women need to do resistance training too!

Hopefully this has shed some light on the common problems with low-carb diets. Following the guidelines above will greatly enhance your results and your health.

Fat Loss For Idiots Review

Fat Loss for Idiots Review – How I Lost 30lbs in 30 Days

A review of the fat loss for idiots program that helped Phil Hixon lose almost 30lbs in 30 days with NO exercise.

Fat Loss for Idiots Review - How I Lost 30lbs in 30 Days

Many people have seen my summer weight loss video on youtube and have been sending emails wondering if it’s really possible to lose that much weight with the Fat Loss For Idiots Diet Program. So I am writing this Fat Loss For Idiots Review in an FAQ style to address some of the most common questions I get. The Fat Loss For Idiots Review Will be two parts because there are quite a few important questions that I want to address.

Does the Fat Loss For Idiots Diet Include Exercises?

No It Does Not. It is purely diet based. The genius of this program is in manipulating your diet to bring about the results you desire. It is possible to get your body into great shape just by diet manipulation alone. Will you look like a fitness model? NO! To get "that" kind of a body you will have to workout. But it is very possible to slim down and get in great looking shape utilizing ONLY the Fat Loss For Idiots Diet. As a matter of fact this is one reason I like this so much was I love going to the gym but when I hurt my ankle I couldn’t go anymore so I needed something that could help me lose weight without having to go to the gym. Frankly I didn’t expect to have the results I did and still do have. It started out as a way to just trim a FEW pounds and to make sure I didn’t get too fat while I wasn’t going to the gym. It became much more than that because I still follow it today and it has changed the way I eat forever.

What Kind of a Diet Is the Fat Loss For Idiots Diet?

This diet is not like traditional diets such as low fat, low calorie, low carb or those fad diets (which ive tried them all) like the cabbage soup diet (so stupid) or those hoodia things. Now I’m not saying that those don’t work because they definitely do. As a matter of fact I think I lost weight on almost all of them. BUT… it wasn’t permanent. The problem with most diets is just that! They are diets! If you are on a diet that means when you get off the diet you go back to your old habits which got you fat in the first place. That was always my problem. With the Fat Loss For Idiots Diet you learn how to eat for the most part pretty normal foods that you are already buying but you learn to eat in the right proportions and the right combinations. This is called Calorie Shifting.

What Kind of Food Do You Get to Eat on the Fat Loss For Idiots Diet?

I really liked this part because there are certain Foods To Eat To Lose Weight and on this program you can still pretty much eat foods you are used to. You don’t have to buy any special foods or anything like that. The ONLY problem for me with this though was the portions and the fact that I couldn’t go to McDonald’s. McDonald’s has been my BIGGEST deterrent to weight loss and for those of you that go to McDonald’s you’re just gonna have to choose between being thin and healthy or fat and tired. Giving up McDonald’s fries was SOOOO hard for me but the great part is now that my diet and weight is in check I can go out once or twice a month and eat a medium fry. And to be honest after you stop eating that crap you don’t even crave it at all. I’m just going to give you a sample of some of the foods you can eat on the Fat Loss For Idiots Diet.

Cottage cheese (I know most of you won’t like this one), Lots of Fruit, Fish, Pasta, Salads, Oatmeal, Turkey sandwiches, scrambled eggs and there is so much more there’s no reason to even go on.

Now I’ll address another question here because many people send me emails saying that they already eat healthy food like that and I know exactly how you feel because I did too! The PROBLEM is the portion, timing and combination of foods. And that’s what the Fat Loss For Idiots Diet helped me out with was the correct portioning and combination of foods.

Atkins Diet Plan Review

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Here’s a review of the Atkins Diet Plan,  and if you’re interested you can click this link to check out Atkins Diet Plan Original Authentic VHS 2 Tape & Spiral Notebook Meal Planner Package hope you enjoy it!

Atkins Diet Plan – What’s The Catch
by: Martin Smith 7eb

The Atkins diet Plan breakfast can usually composed of eggs strips of bacon and coffee. A snack might include coffee with cream, and chunks of cheese. A huge steak fried in butter could be dinner. Doesn’t this sound really good? It seems very tempting but there is a catch.

In the beginning you will have to give up most carbs, such as breads, potatoes, pasta, rice and other things like chocolate, cake, some fruits. In theory, when carbs are eliminated from the diet, the body burns stored fat. Weight loss is quicker because fat burns more calories than carbs.

Stable blood sugar levels help you to feel fuller thereby damping your appetite. The Induction is the first phase of the Atkins diet, which you follow for at least two weeks. Only 20 grams of carbs a day, but you can eat lots of red meat, chicken, fish, eggs cream and butter. That you want.

During this phase, your body learns to burn fat and not carbs. The ongoing weight loss phase is the second stage. Add 5 grams of carbs a day until you get to your critical carbohydrate level for losing weight. How many carbs can YOU eat and still lose between 1 and 3 pounds a week? Bread, pasta rice and potatoes are still taboo.

The pre-maintenance or third phase is started when you have only 5-10 pounds left to lose in order to reach your goal weight. Yes! Now you get to add 10 grams a day for one week, to your carb intake, to help your body adjust to the addition of carbs to your diet, and to the final phase of the diet.

Lifetime maintenance, phase 4, teaches you ways to stay motivated. Your carb intake is limited to 90 grams in a day. You will be eating low carbs for the rest of your life. Some doctors have expressed concern about the long tern effects of the Atkins and other low carb plans.

High saturated fat consumption may cause an increased risk of heart disease. The lack of certain nutrients in this diet could cause future health problems. The limited intake of calcium could possibly put you at risk for Osteoporosis. The low antioxidant nutrients could lead to cancer, heart disease and premature aging.

The Atkins diet is boring in the Induction phase. Vegetarians have a hard time with Atkins, particularly in the early stages, due to the limited amount of vegetables, nuts seeds and beans. The Atkins diet presents an image of good health from a proper diet. Some are concerned that once you go off the diet the weight comes back quickly.

The very low carbs in this diet could cause ketosis which can be dangerous for diabetics. The high cholesterol of this diet may cause constipation and heart disease because of the high fat content. This diet, low in fruits and veggies is consequently low in antioxidants that fight cancer. The Atkins plan is that it’s not intended for long term use and has serious side effects.

The Atkins Plan works, it is that simple. Weight loss is rapid and you can eat as much protein and fat, as you would like. The carbs eliminated by the Atkins diet can cause a loss of antioxidants which are known to prevent some cancers.

This high fat, high protein diet can increase the risk of elevated cholesterol and heart disease. This Diet really works, although some believe you can’t stay on it long term. If you go off the diet or cheat , you will begin to re-gain the weight. Once you start eating a more normal diet the initial weight loss will return.

As with any diet check with a physician-to make sure you are healthy to begin with. The Atkins diet, some believe, is not for long term use and that it poses some serous health risks. If you are overweight, you are already at risk for heart disease and other health problems, and Atkins could increase those risks.

Ultrametabolism: Book Review

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Here’s a book review about the best selling Ultrametabolism: The Simple Plan for Automatic Weight Loss by author Dr Mark Hyman – enjoy!

Book Review – Ultrametabolism: The Simple Plan for Automatic Weight Loss

Ready to shed those extra pounds? Eating right, not eating less is the answer, according to Dr. Mark Hyman in his new bestselling book, Ultrametabolism: The Simple Plan for Automatic Weight Loss.

Book Review - Ultrametabolism: The Simple Plan for Automatic Weight Loss

"No wonder it’s so hard to lose weight- our bodies are designed to keep weight on at all costs; it’s a matter of survival. It’s embedded in our DNA." In essence, we are designed to gain weight, expounds Mark Hyman, M.D. in his new bestselling book Ultrametabolism: The Simple Plan for Automatic Weight Loss. This books follows on the heels of his previous bestseller, UltraPrevention: The 6-Week Plan that Will Make You Healthy for Life that he coauthored and proves to be every bit as informative. Dr. Hyman, who has a passion for the cutting-edge science of Western medicine and alternative health for over 20 years, maintains that Ultrametabolism: The Simple Plan for Automatic Weight Loss is not just another of many weight loss books on the market. Rather, the book is your body’s owner’s manual for overall health. He distills his knowledge into a healthy lifestyle, which reduces the factors of a number of epidemic health problems and degenerative diseases currently plaguing us, while at the same time we also gain the positive side-effect of weight loss.

Ultrametabolism: The Simple Plan for Automatic Weight Loss dives in by turning much of what we believe as conventional wisdom concerning weight loss on its head. Much of what we think we know about weight loss actually has been making us gain weight. As evidence, the book points to the fact that despite the $50 billion we spend on weight loss every year in America, whether it’s diet pills, programs or exercise routines, they all have a dismal success record. In fact, for every diet we go on, we end up gaining five pounds on average in the long run. Obesity is now overtaking smoking as the number one cause of preventable deaths with almost 70 percent of the adult population and one third of our children now overweight. Compounding the problem are the profitable foods the food industry pushes, entrenched pharmaceutical companies and our own government’s recommendations, especially when it comes to the "food pyramid" or low fat in our diets.

In part I, Ultrametabolism: The Simple Plan for Automatic Weight Loss exposes seven hoary myths that make us unhealthy, gain weight and keep it on. First there is the Starvation Myth: Eating less and exercising more does not equal weight loss. Next is the Calorie Myth: All calories are created equal. Third is the Fat Myth. Eating fat makes you fat. Fourth is the Carb Myth. Eating a low carb or no carb diet will make you thin. Fifth is the Sumo Wrestler Myth: Skipping meals helps you lose weight. Sixth is the French Paradox Myth: The French are thin because they drink wine and eat butter, and last but not least is the Protector Myth: Government food policies and food industry regulations protect our health. Moreover, the book points out that the introduced man-made substances such as "trans-fats", which are found in nearly every processed and packaged food because they never spoil, are adding to our overall exploding health and weight problems over the past 30 years. This consumable plastic disrupts our metabolism by actually turning on a gene in your DNA, which slows metabolism causing you to gain weight. The book also discusses another danger to our health: the man-made supersugars, such as high-fructose corn syrup, which is used to sweeten almost everything these days including soft drinks. These supersugars quickly enter your bloodstream and trigger hormonal and chemical changes which induces insulin surges that tell your brain to eat more and your fat cells to store more fat.

If there are substances and foods that we eat that can trigger negative results, then surly there are ways to make us healthy and loose weight. Part II of Ultrametabolism: The Simple Plan for Automatic Weight Loss gives us the keys to turn on our metabolism and fat burning genes, turn off your weight gain genes, and program your body to lose weight automatically. The book takes this even further in part III by providing menus and recipes, along with exercise and lifestyle treatments designed to create healthy metabolism and overall health. This section of the book is designed so it can be customized to meet your unique genetic needs to optimally awaken your fat-burning DNA.

Ultrametabolism: The Simple Plan for Automatic Weight Loss provides a vivid road map to navigate our way back to health and fitness. And in so doing we will be successful in our quest for long-term weight loss without counting calories, fat grams or carbs. We don’t have to starve ourselves; we simply need to eat in harmony with our genes.

Hoodia Patch Review

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Here’s a great article that reviews the Hoodia Patch.  See what you think.

Hoodia Patch: Dieter’s Weight Loss Wonder, or Total Fraud?

Find out if the "hoodia diet patch" is truly an authentic weight loss product that you should seriously consider using, or avoid completely. You may want to read this article if you are thinking of ordering the "diet hoodia patch."

Dieter's Weight Loss Wonder, or Total Fraud?

Today many vendors are claiming that the so-called "hoodia patch" will kill your appetite and even work better and faster than the ordinary hoodia in a capsule, tablet, or liquid. This claim would be extremely goodthat isif it were really true.

As an idea, the "hoodia patch" is intended to work by putting it on your skin; next, the "hoodia patch" is supposed to begin to work its appetite suppressing power in a time-release fashion, going through your skin and passing into your bloodstream. The ultimate result? The "hoodia patch" is supposed to make you feel a lot less hungry during the day, and you’ll start to lose unwanted body fat when you eat less food.

Indeed, this is a fine ideaon paper. But so far there exists absolutely no proof that the "hoodia patch" actually works. There is no clinical case study on the "hoodia patch." Be very cautious: If any vendor claims to have a scientific study or clinical trial that supports the validity of their "hoodia patch," such "proof" may turn out to be FAKEproduced in order to endorse, promote, and sell the so-called "hoodia patch" to the unsuspecting public.

Bear in mind that most patches such as the birth control patch first began as a prescription-driven product; this basic fact indicates that such a patch must endure very critical and demanding scientific trials before it is finally approved and given the "greenlight" to become available to the general public.

To your surprise, no existing "hoodia patch" online or offline is prescription-driven; what this means is that such diet patches have not undergone scientific clinical trials or testing. This clearly shows that no vendor can truly claim that their "hoodia patch" works more effectively than hoodia capsules, tablets, or in liquid.

I don’t know about you, but I do know that personally I wouldn’t spend one cent on any new patch product that has no scientific backing or documentation from a third party that supports the "hoodia patch" as an authentic product worthy of being purchased. Why would you want to risk buying something that might not work at all? Save yourself needless frustrations.

My sincere advice: Do not fall prey to high flying claims of questionable "hoodia patches". Instead, consider real hoodia in a capsule, tablet, or liquid.
